Patience

I am a desert.

Mirages sprout
on my horizons
big enough to
walk around in.

Then recede,
untouchable as tomorrow.

Yet,
the lost wisdom
of a dozen races
lies hidden beneath
my drifts.

Waiting:
to be jiggled by
some archaeologist’s
spade.
